Interview Coder's Pro plan costs $299 a month, or $799 for life — and Pro is still capped at 1,000 credits a month. If you're pricing alternatives, the credit cap deserves as much attention as the invoice.

Interview Coder’s own pricing page lists a free download, then Monthly Pro at $299/month or Lifetime Pro at $799 one-time. The free download by itself doesn’t answer questions — the AI only runs once you’re on a paid plan. And the paid plan has a ceiling of its own: Pro is capped at 1,000 credits a month. A few other tools sell the same idea — an AI overlay that reads your screen. They differ on platform, on what “unlimited” actually means, and on whether the price buys you an app or a subscription.

Interview Coder doesn’t publish what a credit is worth in tokens, so it’s hard to say exactly where the wall sits — only that there is one, and it resets on their clock, not yours. That’s the same complaint people have about the free tier of any tool, just moved up a price bracket.
GhostNote removes the cap a different way: you connect your own key — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google — or run a model locally through Ollama for free. There is no house-imposed ceiling; your only limit is what your provider allows and what you choose to spend. At published list prices checked on 29 July 2026, on a typical exchange of about 2,000 tokens in and 500 out, $5 buys roughly:
Gemini’s Flash models also have a genuine free tier, so it’s possible to run GhostNote and pay nothing at all for AI — still with no credit meter to watch. The tradeoff is real, though: you do the key setup once, instead of never. More on that math in our usage guide.
Bundled credits buy you zero setup. No provider account, no key to paste in, one login and one number to track. If that simplicity is worth $299 a month to you and the cap has never actually bitten, there’s nothing dishonest about staying put — it's a real convenience GhostNote's bring-your-own-key model doesn't offer.
GhostNote runs on Windows and macOS, so platform isn’t why you’d pick one of the others over it. Ofradr, also in the table above, is Windows only and starts at $30/mo — more than GhostNote’s $11.99/mo — and its EULA is worth reading before installing: Article 1.2 states screen data transmission “cannot be disabled without ceasing use of the Software,” and Article 8.3 reserves the right to sell aggregated data to third parties including data brokers.
